Radio Teleswitch Meters

Residents of Scotland with ageing energy systems have until 30 June of this year to take action, or their heating and hot water will be turned off.

If your home has a Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) system, you must have a new meter installed, or you will lose access to heating and hot water.

Energy companies are responsible for the RTS changeover and for arranging the installation of new meters.

As a responsible landlord, we urge all Wheatley tenants to check if they have an RTS meter in their home.

If you do, contact your energy supplier as soon as possible to arrange the installation of a new meter.

After 30 June, homes affected by this will be without heating and hot water.

Where can I find more information?

You can find out more on the ofgem website, which includes links to various energy suppliers in case you need to get in touch with yours.

Why are Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meters being switched off?

The technology is outdated and is being phased out across the UK by the energy industry. This means customers will need to have a new meter fitted or their heating and hot water will not work properly.

How can I find out if I have a Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meter?

Customers who aren't sure if they are affected are encouraged to check their meters and contact their supplier as soon as possible rather than waiting to be notified.

People can check if they have an RTS meter by looking for a transmitter or teleswitch box next to their electricity meter.

It will be labelled "Teleswitch" or "radio telemeter."

Why is Scottish Power involved in supplying my new meter?

Energy company, Scottish Power, who manage and operate these meters will be contacting customers as well.

Scottish Power will arrange an appointment for a new meter to be fitted. All Radio Teleswitch technology is due to be turned off completely by the end of June 2025.

If Scottish Power get in touch with you about your meter being changed, please respond to them so you can avoid the risk of a delay in getting a replacement meter as the deadline gets closer.
