Our Fair Work First statement
Loretto Housing aims to be the employer of choice in the social housing sector. We recognise that our people are our biggest asset. We pay and are committed to paying the real Living Wage, as a minimum, to all our employees. We offer generous conditions of employment, which are well in excess of statutory minimum for employee leave and occupational sick pay. We offer employees cover through our group life assurance policy. Employees also have access to a health plan that reimburses dental, optical and a wide range of other health and wellbeing expenses. This range of benefits helps us to recruit and retain experienced, qualified and highly motivated staff.
Loretto Housing has a trade union recognition agreement in place for the purpose of collective bargaining, including pay and reward. Union recognition provides the organisation with an effective channel for employee voice, ensuring staff are fully consulted and informed in relation to important organisational matters via our recognised union representation. Loretto Housing does not make use of the practice of firing and rehiring staff. Any changes to terms and conditions are made in consultation with our recognised trade unions.
We have created a strong culture of learning within our organisation and remain committed to continuous development of our employees. Our career pathways and development programmes are inclusive of roles across all business areas from entry level positions to senior executive leaders designed to support our employees to reach their full potential. We continue to support staff professional development through our Ignite graduate programme and ongoing delivery of professional qualifications across key business areas and specialist roles. Through partnership working with professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Housing, we are able to deliver qualifications in-house and offer a qualification pathway in partnership with education providers. Our training methods and learning management platform allow us to deliver quality training and track learning journeys of our employees. We continue to work innovatively to create and deliver training through a variety of methods to ensure our employees are skilled knowledge practitioners of frontline services.
Loretto Housing appreciates that employees have responsibilities and commitments outwith the workplace. We operate a wide range of flexible and family friendly working patterns and working hours across the organisation. We also offer additional special time off such as Carer’s Leave, as well as paid Wellbeing Days that staff can take at short notice to focus on their own personal wellbeing. Many of our staff also work on an agile home based arrangement with a blended model of on site and home based working.
Loretto Housing offers access to an Employee Assistance programme to all staff. This includes a 24 hour helpline offering assistance and support, including legal and money advice. Staff also have access to face to face counselling.
Wheatley Group offers a rolling programme of modern apprenticeships. These apprenticeships provide opportunities for young people and result in an accredited SVQ qualification. In addition to this we also offer our Changing Lives programme which provides paid training opportunities, supporting people across our communities to make a sustained return to employment. Moreover as part of our Wheatley Pledge scheme we work with our partners and suppliers to provide a wage incentive to local employers that provide jobs, apprenticeships or training places for unemployed tenants and customers.
Loretto Housing does not make inappropriate use of zero hour contracts. The vast majority of our staff have permanent full-time contracts of employment with guaranteed contracted hours. Part-time hours may also be offered, where this is requested by the individual or where backfilling another part-time vacancy.
Loretto Housing does not require to report gender pay gap in line with legislation due to its small number of directly employed staff. Some members of the Loretto Housing team are seconded from other employing organisations within Wheatley Group and these organisations monitor and report gender pay gap in line with legislation. The results of each set of figures are presented to their respective Boards and appropriate actions are agreed and taken. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are key areas of focus for our organisation, and our ongoing staff campaign “Different Together” highlights the importance of these topics to our teams. In addition to staff equality and diversity training, we have rolled out our “Community of Excellence”, which is chaired by our Director of People Services and is where people with a particular passion in one or more areas of diversity can be involved in making decisions on project work and ensuring that the voices of different groups, covering the protected characteristics in the Equality Act and beyond, are heard and represented.
