Closes, foyers and stairwell safety

Keep closes, foyers and stairwells clear in the event of a fire.

Bags of rubbish lying in a close

An unwanted mattress or chair can encourage deliberate fire-setting. They can also block escape routes if there is a fire.

Don't dump unwanted items on the landing, the back court or on the street. Glasgow City Council collects bulk items such as beds, televisions, mattresses and fridges.

If you live in a house, you can book an uplift from the city council by phoning 0141 287 9700.

You can also request an uplift on the Glasgow City Council website.

If you live in a flat, your housing officer will let you know what day the bulk uplift will be collected - and where to leave items to be picked up. Make sure you leave items at the agreed collection point.
