New affordable homes taking shape at £5.5m Dargavel development in Bishopton

More families are settling into a new £5.5 million affordable housing development in Bishopton.

Loretto Housing Association, part of Wheatley, is delivering 46 high-quality homes for social rent at the Dargavel site, helping meet growing demand for affordable homes in Renfrewshire.

The development is progressing well, with 24 homes already completed and occupied by tenants.

A further 12 homes have recently been completed as part of the latest phase of the new-build project.

One of the new tenants is 22-year-old Louise McDonald, who moved into her new home in August with her family.

Louise said: “It’s great to be able to move and it’s a good environment around me.

“I previously lived in a flat in Johnstone, and my kids couldn’t get out to play, so we’re looking forward to exploring the area.”

Supported by £5.5 million in Scottish Government grant funding, and working with Renfrewshire Council, the development will provide a mix of energy-efficient one and two-bedroom cottage flats, including four wheelchair-accessible homes, alongside two and three-bedroom family houses.

All 46 homes will be available for social rent through Loretto, helping meet growing demand for high-quality affordable housing in Renfrewshire.

Built by Scottish housebuilder Dundas, the development began in March 2025 and is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026.

James Ward, Managing Director of Loretto, said: “We’re committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes that meet the needs of individuals and families.

“These new homes at Dargavel will provide modern, energy-efficient accommodation and make a real difference by increasing the supply of much-needed social housing in Bishopton.

“We’re grateful for the support of the Scottish Government and our partners at Dundas in helping us deliver these much-needed homes.”

Billy Murphy, Managing Director for Dundas said “Dundas are delighted to have worked collaboratively with Loretto to deliver these much needed highly energy efficient, quality homes. The development team look forward to working with Loretto again. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future.”
