Month of Engagement: Community Action Group

Jo Day is loving being part of Loretto's Community Action Group - and he's now encouraging even more Loretto tenants to get involved.

The Community Action Group invites tenants to ‘tell us what you want us to know’. Members decide the priorities for their community – with housing staff supporting the plans to help make the ideas happen.

Jo, from Falkirk, attended his first meeting of the Group last week. He said: “It was really good. I learned a lot and I got to meet new people from across the communities Loretto serves.

"I used to attend a residents' association a number of years ago, which was started not long after the houses were built. It was a great way of getting to know your neighbours. But, unfortunately, the local group fell away.

"I missed having that type of engagement so when I got the letter about joining the Community Action Group I was really excited about coming along.

"I really enjoy attending the meeting. Meetings like these help people have a say in what happens."

Jo is looking at more ways to get involved as well as attending the next Community Action Group and putting his ideas forward.

He added: "I would like others from the Falkirk area to come along to the Group.

"I would love to see more facilities for children where I live because the children tend to play in the car park. It would be safer for the kids to play in the park instead. I would also like to see more sensor lighting installed in my area."

At the recent meeting, members reviewed the action plans and gave an update on what progress has been made in each activity since the Group was established in April.

Members discussed how to get more tenants involved in deciding how Loretto spends its budget and what projects represent the best use of resources.

The meeting was held in Wheatley House, in Glasgow city centre, and is part of Wheatley Group's Month of Engagement. Find out more about how to make a difference at Loretto at Get involved.
