Learning and Development
Introduction
At Loretto we recognise that our staff are our biggest resource. We strive to ensure that we have a committed, highly skilled and motivated workforce.
Mission Statement
The Learning and Development Team will provide a high quality, needs led service to enhance, develop and improve practices. This is to help individuals, teams and organisation excel in providing high quality support to service users.
The Learning and Development Team will work with staff to ensure a competent, capable, confident workforce who are fully qualified and registered with the Scottish Social Services Council by 2012.
Staff Team
Loretto has a dedicated Learning & Development Team, comprising:
• 1 Learning & Development Manager
• 3 Learning & Development Officers
• 2 Training Officers
• 2 SVQ Assessors
The staff team has come from a variety of backgrounds bringing with them a variety of different experiences within the care field. Each team member is able to demonstrate considerable personal qualities such as excellent communication skills, flexibility in approach, enthusiasm, commitment and the ability to work on their own initiative/motivation.
Learning and Development
We provide extensive induction and developmental training programmes that provide each individual staff member with the knowledge and skills needed to do the job and in turn provide a high quality service to all service users.
Each staff member is provided with the core training required for their post together with any specialist training which may be needed to meet the support needs of individual service users. Providing learning opportunities for personal development is also high on our agenda, allowing many individuals to gain promotion within the company or to obtain personal goals either through our training, bursary or specialism schemes.
A career pathway plan is being introduced shortly to facilitate goal setting for individual staff who can then map their future career plans and aspirations.
We co-ordinate and deliver training from our purpose built training rooms at our Head Office in Glasgow, our training suite at Petershill Business Centre or at a number of our remote sites. Training courses are linked to service needs, relevant occupational standards and accelerated learning techniques, mentoring and on site support is used to achieve best outcomes for individuals.
On-site training is provided at a local level by Learning & Development Officers and Service Managers, who are experienced practitioners with expertise in particular areas. On the job coaching, experiential learning and reflective practice is also promoted and is felt to be key in ensuring individuals are confident and competent in their day to day work.
In line with the requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council and recommendations from the Changing Lives 21st Century Review we are also committed to achieving a fully qualified registered workforce. Plans are in place to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to gain a relevant qualification appropriate for their post by 2012.
Support Assistants and Support Workers are being supported to achieve an SVQ level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent. Our middle Managers are undertaking SVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care and our Service Managers have all achieved or are completing SVQ level 4 plus Managing Care , or equivalent qualification.
